We May Need to Work on Modesty A Bit

Dear Preeti,

First things first, you have a new cousin!! R chitti and S chittappa had a baby girl two days ago. I really, really hope you and A become great friends as you grow up, especially because right now I'm worried that you may end up being an only child. One of the things I love about having a sister is that we can call each other up and say things like "OK, mom/dad is CRAZY. Just listen to this...." As you get older, I want you to have someone to talk to and laugh with that will understand where you're coming from without a lot of backstory. Maybe A will be that person or maybe, God willing, you'll have a sibling *and* your cousins to share the craziness with.

Anyway, yesterday we were in the car and Nana was sitting in the back seat with you. You were talking up a storm and playing with a rubber duck (the kind you take in the bath with you). Then the following conversation occurred:

Me: Baby, who has a rubber duck on Sesame Street?
You: Ernie does!
Nana: (marveling at the fact that you said "Ernie does" instead of just "Ernie") Pappu, you're so smart!
You: I know *that!*

Well, at least you're the most modest person you know!

Love,
Mom
